Our home is based just north of the Huron River on the traditional homelands of the Anishinabek, Peoria, and Fox peoples. This land we have been ineptly learning to care for was once stewarded by Indigenous peoples that coevolved with the land before their forced removal.

We owe reparations to both the land and its original stewards. We are working on repairing our own relationship with the natural world and supporting local Indigenous-led work and efforts, and we are eager to find ways to support our community working towards these goals.

We are immensely grateful for the traditional wisdom of Indigenous peoples along with ethnobotanical records on plant communities native to this region. Learning about the powerful reciprocal relationships between native plants and the original stewards of this land continues to deepen our understanding and appreciation of the natural world. We are not experts on these plants, but rather lifelong learners trying to become better acquainted with the world around us and the plants we tend. We have tried to document our knowledge sources about these plants and the gifts they can provide this website.

We are also working through our ingrained white settler mentality and privilege, but it is an ongoing learning process. If you see something on these pages or our social media accounts that needs to be addressed, please do not hesitate reach out.
