Dexter’s Apple Daze in Dexter, MI
Saturday, October 3rd, 10 am – 5 pm at Dexter Monument Park
I’ll be at this family-friendly festival in downtown Dexter, vending baskets, plant-dyed textiles, and (of course!) educating about natural deathcare. Come drop by to visit vendor and craft booths, participate in interactive activities, and check out downtown businesses. This year’s lineup includes crafters, wagon rides, bands and music, food, a pie eating contest, a bounce house, kids games, pumpkin bowling, putt-putt golf, free Kidsight vision screening, and a classic car show.
Pioneer Day in Grass Lake, MI
Sunday, October 11th, 10 am to 5 pm at Waterloo Farm Museum
This will be my first time at this festival! Enjoy horsedrawn wagon rides, music, great food, harvest festivities, demonstrations of traditional crafts and skills, living history interpreters, animals, and unique vendors. I’ll be weaving the lid to a casket and will have some baskets and plant-dyed textiles for sale. The event is also featuring a Victorian Mourning Exhibit, offering visitors a fascinating look at 19th-century funeral customs and traditions.
Willow Weaving Workshop: Kitchen Basket and Soap Tray in Oxford
Saturday, October 17th, 1 pm – 6 pm at Strawbale Studio
($80, registration required)
The event will be hosted in the Strawbale Studio ~ a cozy, enchanting thatched-roof cottage ~ located on wooded rural land 1 hr north of Detroit. You’ll learn traditional basket weaving skills while creating two projects: 1. A Hanging Kitchen Basket for garlic, apples, etc…and 2. A Willow Soap Tray. Also tour the on-site willow bed and learn how to plant, harvest, and process basketry willow.
Enjoy an afternoon in a beautiful natural setting…warmed by the woodstove, and see natural buildings with living and thatched roofs, earth oven, rocket stove.
Wild Weaving Workshop: Tension Trays in Ann Arbor
Thursday, October 22 with Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation
(Only $5, but registration is required)
Come learn about a wide range of plants that can be allies in basket weaving, including many plants that are likely not far from your own doorstep. Tension trays/catalan trays are a wonderful introduction to the world of basketry. In this workshop, you will learn simple ways you can tell if a plant in the world around you can be used in wicker basketry. We’ll learn different ways to process plants for weaving and you will make your own multipurpose woven tray that can be used as a planter, herb dryer, a simple decoration, or even adapted into a full basket.
Annual Health & Resource Fair in Ann Arbor
Friday, October 23rd, 9 am – 12 pm at Pittsfield Township Senior Center
I will be providing information about natural caskets, burial shrouds, and green burial at this local resource fair. I’ll have information about my work as well as others associated with the Michigan Deathcare Collaborative. Come to connect with other local vendors, discover community health services, get free health screenings, vaccinations, and learn about senior-focused resources
Unshrouding Natural Burial in Ann Arbor

Unshrouding Natural Burial is part of a new free educational series at libraries and other third spaces around our region. This series is done in collaboration with The Michigan Deathcare Collaborative and serves to reintroduce sustainable and community-rooted deathcare practices. During this program, attendees will:
-Discover the ancient and accessible practice of burial shrouding
-Learn about natural burial
-Receive free funeral planning resources for planning a natural burial
