Weave & Grieve
with the New Moon
“Creation is the only digestion system big enough for the worlds despair”
-Christopher Sexton
In 2026, I’ll begin hosting regular gathering opportunities around the new moon to weave (or craft!) in community. These were originally planned to be monthly, but may be a little more periodic! Plan to see at least one per season and join my newsletter or check back here to learn when!
How does this work? Bring a craft along from home or just come as you are and you can borrow one of Michael’s baskets to weave. We’ll have an informal setup where we craft in community with one another, letting the conversation shape and flow naturally based on group needs. All forms of grief are welcome, whether you are mourning a deceased loved one, pet, job, relationship, identity, or even the unceasing costs of late climate change and stage capitalism.
Why the new moon? We too often base our lives around man-made calendars. Rather than listening to nature and its seasonal or lunar shifts, we structure our lives around fiscal years, school years, or weekdays vs. weekends. While convenient for our modern age, there is something worthwhile in embracing the shifting energies of nature.
The new moon is a time of darkness, stillness, and renewal. It’s a liminal space between an end and a beginning. This time of the month lends itself well toward embracing grief. Listening to deeper natural rhythms may help us reestablish a relationship with grief in an overculture where we it’s become taboo.
