About Our Burial Trays
Our burial trays are handwoven with willow that is lovingly grown and sustainably harvested on our farmstead. Handles are made of upcycled Michigan hemp or cotton dock rope and bases bases can be woven or made of solid pine, and
Sometimes, willow is also woven alongside other plants harvested in volunteer restoration efforts to improve ecological health of public land. A portion of the proceeds for each funerary vessel purchased is donated to the Watershed Council (or a similar environmental organization) local to the basket’s final resting place. Our goal is to move beyond “sustainable”, ensuring each basket leaves our local ecology healthier and more resilient. Every basket woven increases the well-being of Michigan’s ecosystems by encouraging willow to spread and flourish and removes more problematic species to make space for beneficial flora. Donations to local watershed efforts encourage similar efforts hyeprlocal to the final resting place of each funerary vessel.
Burial trays are intended to be paired with a burial shroud and come with a instructions for how to shroud your loved one. These shrouds can be quilts or other textiles from your own home or one of our own botanically hand-dyed burial shrouds, which we offer at a discount when ordered alongside a burial tray.
