Description: Learn to weave with willow and other other plants!  At the end of the class, you’ll take home a series of woven willow stars that can be used to decorate your home for any holiday you choose (or don’t choose!) to celebrate.  We’ll make a star bubble wand, a hanging neatly-woven star, and a more chaotic but lovely hanging random weave star.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss old western and northern European willow tradition, including how to harvest, sort, dry, soak, and mellow willow.  We’ll also talk about what other plants can be used in this type of basketry, including common “invasive” species.  This will equip you with a wonderful foundation so that you can continue experimenting with weaving on your own, if you so choose. If time and weather permit, we’ll also go out to our willow field to meet the willow and see a harvesting, sorting, and planting demonstration.

We’ll make brilliantly simple willow bubble wands that you can gift to those young in body or heart in your life (or totally keep for yourself!).  We’ll also make two star ornaments using two seperate weaving methods that you can hang in your home to channel the cozy feeling of winter, no matter what holidays you celebrate this month.

This class is well-suited for beginners and intermediate weavers, ages 12+ (however, caregivers may be able bring along younger children to accompany them and assist with their weaving project without need of extra tickets if we have the space. Email to check and be sure we have room!)
